Respite is a service Courageous Acres provides to the parents/guardians of our campers, which allows time for a brief, but usually much-needed rest. Respite not only benefits the caregivers, but also gives opportunities to our campers to experience new activities, socialize with others and build memories to last a lifetime.
Our residential camps begin Sunday afternoon and run through Friday morning. Courageous Acres accepts individuals 15 years and older. Each week is broken down into appropriate age groups. Weekend respite camps include all of the fun of a Residential Camp packed into a weekend. Campers arrive Friday afternoon and stay until Sunday morning. During the summer, campers are welcome to attend either Residential Camp before or after a Respite Weekend (or stay the whole 2 weeks!!).
While in attendance every camper’s need is met, including:

“My son is Joe. He lives at home and is a wonderful son. He is now 31 years old and very sociable. He is the light of our lives and absolutely lives for his weeks at Camp Courageous. He will turn down outings so that he can “save money for camp”. He has pictures all over his room of all the camp counselors and of the camp itself, including a scrapbook I made for him. He plans his outings from June 1 throughout the summer to accommodate camp dates. When I go to his room to help him pack for camp, lo and behold he is already packed. He loves the people chosen to be camp counselors, loves Chef Ron, the talent show, the art projects and the camp fires and s’mores. He even loves the active activities (like hiking) when it is hard to get him to hike when at home. On the way home from camp he relates every activity, and suddenly there is silence; we look in the back seat and he is asleep. As a parent, the things I love about camp are many. The safe and fun environment, the way the camp tailors activities to Joe’s interests (Disney Week), and the way the staff know Joe’s information in and out. Thank you for providing such a well-rounded and fun camp for our son.”
Hello, my name is Ryan :) I have been going to Camp Courageous for over 20 years !!! When Camp Courageous ends for the Summer I am sad :( I enjoy going to Camp Courageous very much. The staff is the BEST. I love being the life guard and doing my “job”. I love the campfires and cookouts too. I love to spend time with my good buddy Joe. I wish I could live at Camp Courageous. I love to eat Chef Ron’s food and play WWE wresting with him as the referee. I love Chelsea and Snowy too. I loved helping at the 1st Ride and Roast, it was a lot of fun. Thank you everybody for helping Camp Courageous.
